As the first quarter of 2021 has concluded, we've observed some interesting trends in the sandbox gaming category in the United States. Sensor Tower has provided data that gives us insight into how these games fared in terms of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users. Here's a closer look at the top sandbox games on the unified platform.

Roblox, published by Roblox Corporation, has seen a steady revenue stream, starting the quarter with $17.6M in the last week of December 2020 and ending with $10.8M in the last week of March 2021. Downloads began at 762K and dipped to 500K by the end of Q1. Weekly active users showed a positive trend, rising from 16.8M to 20.1M during the quarter.

Minecraft by Mojang generated revenues that began at $2.5M and concluded the quarter at $1.7M. The game's downloads saw a decline from 149K to 60K, with weekly active users increasing from 12.1M to 17.3M, indicating a strong and engaged player base.

For IMVU: 3D Avatar Creator & Chat, the revenue was consistent, starting at $1.3M and ending at $1.3M in Q1. Downloads peaked at 155K in late December and finished at 133K in March, while weekly active users hovered around 900K throughout the quarter.

The Sims™ FreePlay, another title from Electronic Arts, showed revenues ranging from $543K to $589K. Downloads and weekly active users both saw slight decreases over the quarter, with downloads starting at 78K and ending at 52K, and active users starting at 242K and dipping to 207K.

Lastly, TSM Game, also from Electronic Arts, had revenues that began at $357K and ended at $288K. Downloads started at 140K, with a noticeable drop to 69K by the end of Q1. Weekly active users followed a similar downward trend, from 322K to 217K.
